Microsoft explains when you need to enter a Windows 10 key
With the official release of the Windows 10 system, Microsoft has enabled a new activation mechanism called "Digital Entitlement" that allows Windows 7 / 8.1 users to upgrade without the need for a product key. The system is automatically activated after the upgrade is complete, and after that the product key is allowed to be reinstalled.
With the help of a digital recognition system, a product key is automatically attached when you are reinstalled and reactivated on the device unless a major adjustment such as a motherboard replacement is required for manual re-activation. In today's updated Windows 10 FAQ, Microsoft details the need to enter manual activation for the new system, and explains in detail why all upgrades from older versions of Windows do not require new product keys.
Digital recognition:
Basically, the digital recognition system is suitable for the following four cases, namely:
1. When you plan to run Windows 7 / 8.1 system on the eligible device upgrade to Windows 10 system
2. You purchased a real Windows 10 system from the Windows Store and successfully activated on the device.
3. You purchased a Windows 10 Pro upgrade from the Windows Store and successfully activated on the device.
4. You are a member of the Windows Insider and upgrade to the latest Windows 10 Insider preview on eligible devices, which had previously run Windows and Windows 10 previews.
This means that you will be able to reinstall without a product key, whether or not you purchased the Windows 10 System Genuine License from the store. You can enjoy the re-installation, and the system will automatically perform the activation process.
Product Key:
Naturally, in some cases still need to enter the product key:
1. You purchased a copy of the Windows 10 physical system from an authorized retailer.
2. You purchased a copy of the Windows 10 digital system from an authorized retailer.
3. You have a bulk license contract for Windows 10 or MSDN subscriptions.
4. You purchased a new device running Windows 10 system.
In simple terms, if you are just buying a new user running Windows 10 system equipment, then you need a product key. In this way, the activation mode is the same as that of the previous Windows system. You need to find the key in the random disc of the device or the small note containing the product key and enter it into the system for activation.
